Welcome to Music 101, the first step in your journey as a musician.

This course will cover the essentials you absolutely need to know no matter what your goals are as a musician. These fundamental building blocks of music will inform every aspect of the music you create, and knowing them inside-out will be key to achieving your goals as a musician.

How this course works

Each lesson in this course is presented both in written and video form. The exact same information is provided in each, so you can learn whichever way you're most comfortable with. Pictures and audio files will be included in the written section to demonstrate things seen and heard in the video.

Every lesson includes a few exercises you can try on your own time, with the answers provided in a separate document.

Throughout the course, there may be short quizzes to test your knowledge of the material covered so far. No pressure at all, these are just for your own practice, and aren't necessary to complete the course.

Use the QSM Community Discord server for advice, feedback on your own music, and to support each other in your musical journeys. I'll be there too.

How fast should you go?

All of the courses in Quick Start Music's catalog are meant to be taken at your own pace. There's no time limit, and there's no rush. Spend as much time as you need with each concept, taking days or even weeks between some of the more advanced lessons to really practice and apply the material.

Also, be sure to periodically revisit past lessons you've already completed; it's great to review and reinforce concepts now and then.
